Sandy Hook Random Acts of Kindness

As educators, we remember and honor our fallen colleagues and their students from Sandy Hook School. We honor them each day in our classrooms in which we continue their dream of teaching our children. We honor their memory with our service. Join with teachers everywhere in committing random acts of kindness to show our love for Sandy Hook.

S'More Great Winter Product Swap!

A few of us got together to swap some of our favorite products... and we wanted to share them with you! I was fortunate enough to be paired with Ms. Wainwright from Not So Wimpy Resources. I love her blog name, and I was thrilled to see what resource she would send me so I could try it out!

Ms. Wainwright sent me her Snowball Splat! I Have That synonym and antonym matching game. She actually has quite a few Splat! I Have That! resources, so if you like this one head here to check out the others! I was immediately drawn to the cute cover, and was extremely pleased that the interior of this product is as appealing as the exterior :)

This game is great for students to practice matching synonyms and antonyms during a fun game. You can use this game during centers, partner work, with a parent volunteer, or with a group of students. The rules are easy to understand so students don't waste time trying to figure it out. They can spend their time matching.

I decided to put a little twist on this game, and after my students played it, I then gave them their own gray scale copy of some of the word cards. I had my students color the cards and then they glued the matches onto paper. I was able to use this product to also assess whether my students could identify antonyms and synonyms. Double duty…score! You don't have to do this, of course. But I used this game towards the end of my grading period, so I thought it would be perfect as a quick progress check.
As an added bonus I had my students write a sentence using both words. Grammar- check! I am all about assessing multiple standards using one activity. This student even color coded her matches before cutting in case they "got mixed up" before she could glue them into her notebook. Love it!

Deck the Halls with TpT Linky Party!

I am so excited to be a part of the "Deck the Halls with TpT" Linky Party hosted by Christina over at Bunting, Books, and Bainbridge. After you read about my holiday playlist, be sure to head over to her blog by clicking on the image above to visit everyone else who is participating and read about their playlists. And I must say Zip-A-Dee-Do-Da Designs did a fab job with the playlist image below :)
My favorite song of my playlist is "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Reading"…..everywhere you go! Take a look in the Interactive Notebooks for Close Reads helping your students think about texts at a higher level. You can start off with my Beginner's Kit, or if you are looking for something more advanced you can check out grade specific notebooks for informational text or literature for grades 1-5. This set is a work in progress. As I finish a notebook I will be adding it to my store. Right now I have Informational Text Notebooks for 5th, 4th, 3rd, and 2nd, and Literature Notebooks for 5th. Here are some pics of what the inside of these notebooks look like.

Next up on my playlist is "Walking in a Math Wonderland". Equations sing, are you listening? In the room, students are solving. A beautiful sight, we happy tonight, walking in a math wonderland! I have grade level sets of Daily Math Reviews for grades 1-5. You can purchase each month, or you can purchase a variety of bundles for savings. You can use these products as a daily review/preview of math skills, morning work, homework, center work, partner work, or with small groups. This line of products is very versatile. Here are the links to the December versions for 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and 1st grades. On each page you will find links to the other months and the bundles that are offered. Here is a quick peek at some of the pages:

And, last but not least, "The 12 Days of Common Core". One the first day of Common Core, my true love gave to me, some pre and post assessment packs! I have pre and post assessment packs to assess 3rd or 4th grade math domains (more domains and grade levels are being added). Each standard has a pre and post assessment AND there is a pre and post assessment for the whole domain. Currently I have 3rd grade domains of Operations & Algebraic Thinking, Number & Operations with Fractions, and Number & Operations in Base Ten. For 4th grade I currently have Operations & Algebraic Thinking and Number & Operations in Base Ten. Here are some sneak peeks at the inside of these packs:

I hope you enjoyed taking a look at my holiday playlist! Be sure to head over to Bunting, Books, and Bainbridge to see more playlists. I will be offering 20% off almost all products in my store, and don't forget to use promo code "Cyber" to save an additional 10% on all your TpT purchases Dec. 2nd and Dec. 3rd!
