Sandy Hook Random Acts of Kindness

As educators, we remember and honor our fallen colleagues and their students from Sandy Hook School. We honor them each day in our classrooms in which we continue their dream of teaching our children. We honor their memory with our service. Join with teachers everywhere in committing random acts of kindness to show our love for Sandy Hook.

S'More Great Winter Product Swap!

A few of us got together to swap some of our favorite products... and we wanted to share them with you! I was fortunate enough to be paired with Ms. Wainwright from Not So Wimpy Resources. I love her blog name, and I was thrilled to see what resource she would send me so I could try it out!

Ms. Wainwright sent me her Snowball Splat! I Have That synonym and antonym matching game. She actually has quite a few Splat! I Have That! resources, so if you like this one head here to check out the others! I was immediately drawn to the cute cover, and was extremely pleased that the interior of this product is as appealing as the exterior :)

This game is great for students to practice matching synonyms and antonyms during a fun game. You can use this game during centers, partner work, with a parent volunteer, or with a group of students. The rules are easy to understand so students don't waste time trying to figure it out. They can spend their time matching.

I decided to put a little twist on this game, and after my students played it, I then gave them their own gray scale copy of some of the word cards. I had my students color the cards and then they glued the matches onto paper. I was able to use this product to also assess whether my students could identify antonyms and synonyms. Double duty…score! You don't have to do this, of course. But I used this game towards the end of my grading period, so I thought it would be perfect as a quick progress check.
As an added bonus I had my students write a sentence using both words. Grammar- check! I am all about assessing multiple standards using one activity. This student even color coded her matches before cutting in case they "got mixed up" before she could glue them into her notebook. Love it!

I am thankful that my children got to know my brother, even if only for a few years, before he passed away suddenly 2 years ago. I am thankful for a husband who is supportive of my decision to stay at home and become a full-time blogger and writer. I am thankful for my three children who bring a smile to my face everyday and remind me to enjoy each day as it is.

I would love to hear what you are thankful for! Leave a comment below to let me know!

My Favorite Time of Year Is Here!

I can't tell you how happy I am that fall is upon us! Living in Georgia I love how we have 4 distinct seasons, but there is something about fall that makes my heart do a happy dance. There are SO many things about fall I love, but the part I like best about Fall is football. Even though this means I rarely see my husband June through November because he is a football coach, and I am running around like a chicken with my head cut off August through November because both of my sons play football, I just love football. Even when my favorite team (Go Vols!) isn't playing, I still love watching. I think it's because every single game is so important. I mean, if you lose one game, just ONE game, it could potentially knock the team out of contention for a title. It isn't like in baseball where you can lose 20 or 30 games and still make the play-offs (baseball fans, please don't hate me for saying that!). Every football game has the potential to be a nail-biter because every game is critical. And after a weekend of football like last weekend, I can't WAIT for the remaining games!!!

And, in celebration of how wonderful fall is, I am participating in another giveaway this month! This time the giveaway is with my friends over at All Things Upper Elementary. Up for grabs are some TpT gift certificates! Yeah! If you don't know how to enter yet, you will need to head on over to ATUE's blog to find out! It's going to be a great giveaway, but you will have to put in a little leg work first ;)
